My Story

I was raised in a Catholic family in Houston, Texas. Before I came to college, I had not personally invested in the faith and did not know the value of having a personal relationship with Christ, and wasn’t aware of the truth, beauty, and goodness available in the Catholic Church and the abundant life that the Lord had to offer me.

When I came into my Freshman year at Oklahoma State University, my faith was not the top priority in my life. I became more interested in finding my identity from the views and opinions of the people around me, and trying to fit in with what the culture had to offer rather than following the will of God. During these first few weeks of my freshman year, I experienced a few different losses in my life that left me struck with grief. As I was in a completely new place far from my home for the first time, I had no immediate community near me to lean back on, and I quickly began to understand that I could not go through life trying everything on my own. By the grace of God, I met a FOCUS Missionary on my campus during this time, and got connected to the Catholic student center on my campus through joining a Bible study. As I began to meet students who were involved at the student center, I was captivated by their joy and charity towards one another that flowed from their relationship with Christ. I quickly saw that there was more to life, and I wanted to live with the joy that these students my age were living with.

My involvement with FOCUS during my years in college transformed by life and my heart in ways that I could have never imagined. Through engaging with scripture in Bible studies in a new way, receiving formation through discipleship, forming authentic friendships, and learning to develop a true relationship with God through prayer, I began to allow Christ to become the center of my life. Now, as a FOCUS Missionary, I get to work for the harvest and help bring other college students to this transformation that our Lord has to offer!
