Margaret Sawicki

Hi all! My name is Maggie Sawicki and I am a first year focus missionary! :))

“God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life.”

(Catechism of the Catholic Church 1)

Where I serve

I am super excited to share that I’ll be serving at the University of North Dakota! Go Hawks!

Team UND

Here’s (most) of my team! From left to right: Madyson, Alex, Me, Sam, and Logan! We also have another teammate, Emmy, who will be on campus with us as well!

My Story

I was blessed to be born and raised Catholic while also attending Catholic school from preschool to my senior year of high school. My faith was always something that I knew was important, set by the beautiful example of my Grandma (she raised five boys, that qualifies her for sainthood, right?!), but it was always something I learned about, and wasn’t something I lived on the day to day. It wasn’t until the summer going into my senior year of high school, at a Steubenville Conference, that I encountered the Lord’s profound love for me in the Eucharist.

After that summer the Father’s love was something I knew I couldn’t ignore. I started attending weekly Adoration for high school students at our parish and going to the Friday morning Mass offered at school, as well as Sunday Mass. Before I knew it my senior year came and went, and I was to begin my college career at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where I studied nursing (go Titans!). I remember going into college remembering I was pretty indifferent to my faith not caring if it grew or stayed where it was. I was involved with our Newman Center on campus, but not much beyond their student meals and Sunday Masses. I very much lived the double lifestyle of going out on Saturdays but also going to Sunday Masses, finding myself not able to commit fully to either.

Little did I know my life was about to change when a focus missionary invited me on a mission trip over spring break to Belize. There I met my best friends who I have had the joy of running toward Christ with ever since. Following that trip and having these girls by my side, living the faith became a lot easier. I found myself frequenting the sacraments more and making prayer more of a priority in my life. It wasn’t until my sophomore year at  focus’ annual national conference, SEEK24, that the Lord chose to seek me out yet again to show his deep love for me that would transform my relationship with Him. It was following Monsignor James Shea’s talk (if you know you know) and I was feeling really defeated because as much as everyone else loved the talk and came out of it so fired up for the Gospel, I didn’t have the same reaction as they did. My missionary at the time, Jamie, looked at me and said words I would never forget. She told me, “Maggie, you are not your joy, you are a beloved daughter” and she sent me into the chapel to read Isaiah 43.

They always say the longest journey is from your head to your heart, and in that time spent there the concept that I actually am a beloved daughter of the Father finally hit me.

Since then my life hasn’t been the same. I see the deep call for each and every one of us to learn and understand our identities as beloved sons and daughters; and to take part in sacred love and life that God is calling us in to that our world works so tirelessly to make us forget. God really has set us free and it is a great joy to live in that freedom! Had it not been the invitation and words from my own missionaries, I would have never taken that step deeper into my relationship with God. I hope that in my littleness the Lord can use me on campus in the same way to invite the students into a more abundant life, living out their identities as children of God,  that I as a college freshman, did not believe was possible!

Your Impact

When I said yes to serving with FOCUS, I chose to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to make this mission possible. If you feel called to join me in this work of reaching souls for Christ, I’d love to connect with you by email or phone. It would be a joy to get to know you and share this mission with you! I am deeply grateful for your generosity and faith as we walk together in this mission.

I’d love to hear from you! [email protected]/920.422.3804
