God has called me to serve at Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry (DCCM) in Michigan. The DCCM is the Catholic home to four schools in the Detroit area: Wayne State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, College for Creative Studies, and Henry Ford College.

When I stepped on campus my freshman year at the University of Iowa, I encountered a tough decision. I could abandon my Catholic faith to fit in with a secular culture, or I could choose to embrace it. Had I been alone in this decision, my life would look very different today. Thankfully, God placed a FOCUS missionary named Luke in my life to walk with me.

Luke encouraged me to take tangible steps in my relationship with God, like praying and attending Mass daily. He also showed me how I can bring others closer to Christ, fulfilling Jesus’s great commission in Matthew 28:19,

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit”

This decision is not unique to my experience. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students begin their college journey in the United States, and each individual soul is uniquely loved by God. FOCUS seeks to guide these people to a life of fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
