God has called me to serve college students. Since I generally try to heed the promptings of the divine, I’ve committed to serving as a missionary with FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students). Since FOCUS also tries to heed the promptings of the divine, I’ve been assigned to serve at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. As a FOCUS missionary, I’m FOCUS-ed on modeling the transformative love of Jesus to students through intentional relationship, bible study, mentorship, and campus outreach. Of course, the ultimate goal of this mission is that these students come to know themselves and others in light of God’s infinite love for each of us.

As a young student, I completely missed the point on God, religion, and faith. Thank goodness for God’s patience, because through the Holy Spirit, I was introduced to several now-close friends and missionaries. These peoples’ joy and enthusiasm for the Faith reinvigorated me and drew me deeper into relationship with God. Since those fateful days many years ago, my life has been continually transformed by Jesus, and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. I believe that every person should have a chance to experience the deep and graceful love of Christ as I have.

In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few (the twelve Apostles). Typically, we can look to Jesus for a guide of how to live, so I look to Jesus own example to find the best method of reaching the world. While I won’t gather 12 men to follow me across the Galilean countryside, my job is to invite men to walk with me towards a life-giving relationship with Jesus.

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission.
