We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness.” – Pope St. John Paul II
Hey! My name is Matthew. I’m a FOCUS missionary at Boston University!
God has blessed me with the opportunity as a first-year missionary to walk with college students at Boston University and help them know the love of Jesus Christ! Although BU has almost twenty times the number of students as my alma mater, Mount St. Mary’s, I am so excited to get the chance to serve in the entirely new setting of a city and invite others into the BU Catholic Center! Building a relationship with Christ has changed the entire course of my life, and I would love to share my story with you!
Below are my three teammates (from left to right): Austin, Natalia, and Therese. They are all absolutely amazing, and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to serve alongside them!

Growing up in Vermont, I had my first true encounter with Jesus Christ through the campus ministry at my Catholic high school. After finally accepting repeated invitations from friends to go on a retreat in my freshman year, I encountered Jesus Christ for the first time not only through the encounter of other young Catholics, both peers and chaperones (many of whom were former FOCUS missionaries), but even more so through the encounter of Jesus Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist (even though I had no clue what those things truly were yet). Over the next few years, I learned more about my faith and came to realise several profound truths: that the presence of Christ in our lives is real, that He loves us to the point that He went to the Cross for us, and that he desires nothing less than a real, life-changing relationship with us!
Upon attending college at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, my relationship with Christ exploded into something bigger than I ever could have imagined! Through the mentorship of some amazing spiritual brothers and the FOCUS missionaries I met in campus ministry at the Mount, as well as through the three summers I spent serving as a Totus Tuus teacher, I learned how to actually foster a relationship with Christ in my own life through prayer and growth in virtue and only continued to develop a desire that formed in high school to walk with and encourage others to allow Christ to change their own lives.
The years since that initial encounter with Jesus have been filled with ever-increasing joy and hope that has changed my life and led me on adventures I never could have dreamed of! I desire nothing more than to invite others onto the same amazing adventure of joy and hope that a relationship with Jesus Christ brings!
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. Your support helps change the lives of students longing for something more in ways both big and small. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I would be honored to share this mission with you.

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
