Raul Orta

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, thankful for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel thus about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.”

-Philippians 1:3-7

Where I serve

I will be serving at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. It’s a smaller college about two hours south of Atlanta. I’m excited to share my talents with the students there!

My Story

I am a cradle-catholic that had a deep reversion my sophomore year of college through daily mass, reading of the scriptures, and studying theology & apologetics. I received a masters degree in computer science at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where I attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

In college I was searching for happiness in the wrong things. I was in a really low place even though I had so many things: friends, parties, good grades, status. But none of those things were satisfying. My sophomore year I received a thought out of the blue to start going to daily mass and started attending the next day. Later, I knew it was a grace from God. I started reading the gospels for the first time and was able to know more deeply the life of Jesus in his ministry. Through another long-time catholic friend I started having discussions about theology and the Early Church Fathers which had an exponential effect on my faith.

My junior year of college, I led a high school youth group at my parish where I had the opportunity to make relationships and form the next generation of Catholics. I led my own college bible studies and was able to grow in virtue with several other men like me. I’ve given talks on chastity to several hundred high school boys at my home parish, St. Bernard in Dallas, Texas. Over the years I have been truly blessed to see how Christ has formed me for this mission.

Your Impact

I invite you to join my mission of spreading the good news with your prayers and financial gifts. As a FOCUS missionary I rely totally and completely on the gifts of others to support my mission. With your financial gifts you will directly be able to participate in the evangelization of young adults even if you can’t step foot on the campus yourself. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you!!
