Samuel Mcphillips

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

-Matthew 28:19-20

My Story

I was raised in the small town of Humphrey, Nebraska. I went to St. Francis Catholic School and attended Mass every Sunday at St. Francis Parish. After graduating there I went to Wayne State College. There, I bounced back and forth between majors for 3 years, eventually this led to my graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. Throughout high school, I was very active participating in football, basketball, track (for 1 year), golf (for 3 years), one act, speech, music, quiz bowl, and going on every retreat I possibly could. When I went to Wayne, I allowed most of the extracurriculars to drop off, but I stayed active playing basketball in the rec and being very active in the Newman Club on campus.

Over the years, my love for Christ has slowly grown. It started from the time I was a kid. I was always enthralled by the Old Testament bible stories of David and Moses. It grew in high school when I started attending retreats and realized that I was not alone in my love of Christ. I learned that Christ invites us all into an intimate relationship with him. Christ worked in my life further still when I got to college and was emersed in the greatest gift of friends that I could have asked for. Together, we bonded and called each other higher. It has been amazing to see Christ work in my life and the lives of those around me. I was blessed to get into a FOCUS bible study early on in my college career. The example that all of the missionaries gave to me was wonderful. Without them, I never would have considered college ministry as a viable option for work and mission. I led a bible study in my senior year of college and also led 2 guys in discipleship because I was encouraged to do so by my FOCUS missionaries. It was the most fulfilling part of my senior year. I will always look back on those guys and thank God for the blessing they were to me. They helped me see the urgency with which we must approach evangelization on college campuses. These students are at the most important time of their lives when it comes to how they choose to carry out their faith after college. Christ used them in my life to help me grow in responsibility and to apply to FOCUS to be a missionary.

Mission is what Jesus calls us to in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Not everyone is called in the same way to the mission, either. As a FOCUS missionary, Christ has called me to be his leader and missionary on a college campus. I am asking you to join me in this mission by contributing funds that Christ has blessed you with, so that this mission might be possible. Without you, I would be unable to go to campus in the Fall and bring those people who are yearning for Jesus to him. While I need your funds to stay on campus, I more importantly need your prayers, as the evil one will try to ruin the good Christ works in me. Please pray for me always. I can assure you I will be praying for you!
