“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater loves than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:12-13
Hello! My name is Will Scharf and I am a FOCUS missionary at The University of South Dakota! Go Yotes!

I am so blessed to be returning to the University of South Dakota, where I will be finishing my senior year of college while serving in mission alongside my teammates William, Rachel, Marley, Grace, and Griffin! The opportunity to serve as both a student and a missionary is one for which I am incredibly grateful to God for!
I attended the University of South Dakota originally with the mindset to “get in and get out.” I desired to spend the majority of my time and energy focused on studying and schoolwork while occasionally attending Sunday Mass and Bible study at the Newman Center. I lived this way until the fall of 2025, when I had an encounter with our Lord through the Sacrament of Confession. That day, I found that Jesus lit my heart on fire, and I felt a strong calling to do all that I could to help others experience the same divine love that I felt.

Ever since that day in the confessional, I could tell that my heart and attitude toward life had completely changed. Instead of maintaining a “get in and get out” mindset, I felt drawn to the Newman Center through the grace of God. It was there that I found a deeper sense of belonging and a desire to seek the same love that I had experienced in the confessional within the community of the Newman Center. Praise the Lord, because this love is exactly what I found—the kind of love that can only come from God. Somehow, within months of my reversion to the faith, I found myself leading multiple Bible studies and discipleship groups. When I wasn’t in class, I was either at the Newman Center or on some adventure with fellow Newman Center students.
I became close with the FOCUS missionaries on campus and did all that I could to follow in their footsteps. I was immediately drawn to their joy, love, and intimate relationship with the Lord. Their witness inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and helped me go from being a lost sheep to one that had been found. I knew that I wanted to have this same impact on college students across the United States. It was through this realization that I said “yes” to God’s call to become a FOCUS missionary and dedicate my life to fulfilling His Great Commission by bringing the good news of the Gospel to lost souls on college campuses.
When I said yes to FOCUS, I said yes to relying on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help reach college students. This support directly helps win souls for Christ and allows the joy and love of the Lord to be shared with others. If you are interested in partnering with me, please feel free to reach out. I would love to schedule an appointment with you to share more about this mission and how God is working on college campuses.
My phone number is (605) 569-2057, and my email is [email protected]. I would be honored to have you join me in this mission and would be grateful for the opportunity to share it with you.
God bless!

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
